X5 Retail Group N.V.’s history is the history of the dynamic development of two leading Russian retail chains, Pyaterochka and Perekrestok.
1995
• Perekrestok is founded by the Alfa Group consortium
1998
• 20 Perekrestok supermarkets are opened to date, Perekrestok acquires its first wholesale distribution center
1999
• The Pyaterochka chain is founded by Andrey Rogachev and Alexander Girda
• The first 16 Pyaterochka stores are opened in St. Petersburg
2001
• Pyaterochka enters the Moscow market
2002
• The first Perekrestok hypermarket opens
• Perekrestok is introduced to regional markets
• Pyaterochka launches franchise operations
• The first private label items are introduced
2003
• Templeton Investments acquires a 7.7 percent stake in Perekrestok
• 75 Perekrestok supermarkets are opened to date
• Perekrestok acquires the SPAR chain in Ukraine
• Pyaterochka opens the largest distribution center in North-West Russia
2004
• Perekrestok purchases the 365 chain in Yaroslavl
• Perekrestok opens a deli and salad production facility
• In December 2004, the 90th Perekrestok supermarket opens
• Pyaterochka opens its 100th stores in both Moscow and St. Petersburg
• Pyaterochka expands into Ukraine and Kazakhstan
2005
• Pyaterochka makes an IPO on the London Stock Exchange
• Pyaterochka acquires 18 Kopeika stores in St. Petersburg and 25 Kopeika stores in Moscow
• Perekrestok enters the Ukrainian market by acquiring four stores from the SPAR chain in Kiev
2006
• Pyaterochka and Perekrestok merge in May 2006
• The enlarged company is renamed X5 Retail Group N.V.
2007
• X5 announced a bond float of 25 billion rubles
• CEO of X5 Retail Group Lev Khasis elected to serve as chairman of the board of the ACORT
• X5 announced the company’s five-year strategic development plan
• X5 acquired control of 40 Pyaterochka stores in Chelyabinsk
• X5 opened the first company-owned Pyaterochka convenience store in the Nizhegorod region
• X5 announced a bond float of 9 billion rubles
• X5 acquired RETAIL GRAND PRIX
• X5 led the Top 200 ratings
• X5 senior management named among the “Most Professional Managers in Russia” in the Retail category
• X5 announced the launch of a new franchising program for neighborhood stores

• X5 acquires the Karusel hypermarket chain

• X5 launches a new supermarket concept under the “Green Perekrestok” brand and opens the first branded store in Rostov-on-Don
